Making history: “Sea Dubai” Sponsors 2009 WPPA Championship

A new partnership agreement was signed between the distinguished UAE Sports Brand “Sea Dubai” – “Bahar Dubai: Arabic” - with the World Professional Powerboating Association (WPPA) and the International Offshore Teams Association (IOTA). The agreement assigns “Sea Dubai” as an official Platinum Partner for the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship for the 2009 season’s competitions, that begin end of April in Doha, Qatar and continues for 8 rounds to reach the finale in Dubai as has been for several years.

The sponsorship agreement was declared at a press conference held yesterday at the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) chaired by Saeed Harib, CEO Mina Seyahi Dubai & Managing Director DIMC along with Marco Sala General Secretary, IOTA in the presence of the media and marine sports enthusiasts.

“Sea Dubai” has received acclaim for its performance in the RC 44 Championship and more over for its endeavours to promote Dubai as the city of watersports. The concept of creating the brand Sea Dubai has earned DIMC the title of being the “Home of Watersports” where year after year it plays host to several international marine sports events.
 

“From what emerged as a little idea two years back has now evolved into a major international brand – Sea Dubai – sailing new horizons everyday, with speedy transformations and into a living reality,” Saeed Harib said. “Sea Dubai has become a world known brand and earned its popularity through its diverse events it is associated with”, he added.

Saeed Harib, added that through the Platinum Partnership that Sea Dubai has just embarked on, Sea Dubai offers innovative technology for the first time in the sport of Powerboat Racing - technology that rivals that of the major car racing motor sport. The benefits of this technology enhances firstly the media possibilities within the sport from live internet access to follow the race in a “virtual world” anywhere in the world. This also provides TV programme support in again virtual descriptive race real time analysis, with the added benefit of branding possibilities for partners and venues.

Secondly, the virtual system provides unrivalled additional safety information with live time graphics on race boat positions increasing the safety response capabilities. Lastly, Sea Dubai supports the role of the WPPA race management with the virtual system providing live time view of the complete race course. The first-time race officials will have real and exact information to administer the racing and sporting rules.

What is Sea Dubai?

Sea Dubai is a brand identity that promotes the highest levels of competition in numerous watersports through regional and international strategies. Brand Sea Dubai highlights the emirate as the destination for watersports. Sea Dubai is not merely aimed at fostering and preserving the bond between culture and sports, it is also to link the past with the future. The history and heritage of the country is deeply rooted and the vision of the leaders encourages local competitors to portray their skill and culture on the one hand while, international competitions showcase the modern side of motorsports.

In the late 1970’s HH The Late Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum had a vision to have three distinctive areas in the Emirate of Dubai. His foresight witnessed the creation of the Jebel Ali Free Zone as the industrial area, Mina Seyahi was to cater to the tourists’ pleasures – hence Mina Seyahi and the central area of Dubai was to serve as the residential locale. Over the years the Rulers of Dubai have encouraged the promotion of watersports at the highest level. HH The Late Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the creation of the Dubai international Marine Club in 1994 while the Dubai Marine Club was in existence since 1988. Located at Mina Seyahi which had a natural slipway for boats and dhows to be launched and it was the vision of the Rulers that brought about the transformation of the area into a modern Marina for yacht owners to moor their boats.

More recently, the direct involvement of HH Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority has boosted the value of Sea Dubai with the official launch on November 22, 2009 followed by the first ever Sea Dubai Watersports Festival under his patronage. Presenting an array of watersports competitions over 12 days catapulted brand Sea Dubai to greater heights. In these days of high powered watersports Sea Dubai is proud to partner with Edox, a 125 year-old Swiss watch manufacturing company. In order to strengthen its involvement in the field of high performance water sport Edox is an official watch supplier to the Sea Dubai Sailing Team, one of the leading racing teams of the RC44 Championships.
